Last week we went to Bastone in Royal Oak, that Belgian brewpub I mentioned wanting to go to a while ago. Fortunately there was a
menu available online, so we were able to scout it out ahead of time.
The beers were quite tasty. I tried the Wit, the Pale Ale, and the seasonal, which was a Mexican Lager. They were all very good, although the spices were very evident in the Wit, so if you don't like that sort of thing, I wouldn't get one.
The only appetizer we could all agree on was the fries, so we just got two orders of those. The cool thing there is that they're served with mayonnaise, just like in Europe. There's 8 types of mayonnaise to choose from, so we got to try horseradish, garlic, Roquefort cheese, and curry. I think the Roquefort was my favorite, but horseradish was good too. Definitely more interesting than just putting ketchup on fries.
Meal-wise, I decided to get all authentic, so I tried the Seafood Waterzooi stew. It was...interesting. It had a good sauce, and a lot of seafood, but it just didn't do much for me. I can't quit explain why I didn't like it, but I remember saying at the time that it felt too much like work eating it. Paula had some pasta with chicken & cranberries in a cream sauce that she liked a lot.
Rating-wise, I'm going with A- for beer, and B- for food.
